Welcome to my Practice
I’m Dr. Vicki Putz, a psychoanalyst and licensed clinical psychologist. I welcome your curiosity in an in-depth approach. Your questions are a good place to begin and may lead to suprising discoveries from the very beginning. I look forward to the possibility of speaking with you.
My Approach
While I have experience with numerous therapeutic modalities, I’ve found that psychoanalytic work is the most effective path to more meaningful and enduring change—particularly Jacques Lacan’s ideas about the profound way the unconscious organizes experience. Rather than offering ready-made explanations, psychoanalysis creates a space in which something unexpected may emerge through your own speech. What first appears as suffering, repetition, or impasse may gradually reveal something of the singular way your life has come to be organized—and with that, the possibility of living otherwise. Perhaps most importantly, analysis can cultivate an ongoing curiosity about your own experience that continues long after the work itself has ended.
Professional Background
I hold a doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (now William James College) and a certificate in psychoanalysis from the Massachusetts Institute of Psychoanalysis. My clinical foundation also includes training in cognitive and behavioral approaches, and time-limited therapy.
I teach psychoanalytic technique and Lacanian theory at the Massachusetts Institute of Psychoanalysis and provide supervision and consultation to clinicians interested in deepening their psychoanalytic practice. I value creating a collaborative space where clinical questions can be explored thoughtfully and where theory remains in conversation with the singularity of each case. Teaching, supervision, and clinical work continually inform one another, sustaining my own curiosity and ongoing engagement with psychoanalytic practice.
Beyond Psychology
My perspective has been enriched by education outside traditional psychology. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in addition to my doctorate in psychology, and I continue to work with various creative mediums in my personal practice. This creative background informs my clinical work, particularly in my attention to the relationship between image and language, and to the ways meaning can become fixed in ways that limit new possibilities.
